What happens if I change the name of a google drive folder?

Google Drive is a versatile tool for managing and sharing files, and one of its features is the ability to organize your files into folders. Sometimes, you may find it necessary to rename a folder to better reflect its contents or to improve organization. 

Changing the names/ titles of Google Drive folders:

CounselMore generates some of these folders for you automatically. Other folders you label and connect to your CounselMore account. Those that you create and label yourself can have the name changed at any time. What is seen on the files tab is what is reflected in the Google drive folder - however it may take 24 hours for the files tab to update an accurately reflect what you have changed in your Google drive folder.  What folder are you changing? Renaming a Folder Inside a Student’s Folder
You have opened your Google Drive - under looking at folders that you own in your Google Drive: When you rename a folder inside a student’s folder in Google Drive, the folder’s name will update immediately. This change will be reflected wherever the folder appears, including the Student Files tab, making it easier for you to keep track of and organize your documents.

What Happens to the Files Inside?
The good news is that when you change the folder’s name, all files inside the folder remain intact. The content, file names, and organization within the folder do not change at all. The only difference will be the new folder name, which can help you organize your Drive more effectively

Follow these steps to rename a folder inside a student's folder in Google Drive:

1. Navigate to Settings > Google Drive > Client Storage Folder 

 

2. Select Grad Year > Student Record > Folder you want to rename/change

  • In this instance, the folder that will be modified or renamed is the Counselors Resources Essays to Resources - Essay Package

Note:

To successfully modify or rename the folder, make sure to update it within the specific student's record in Google Drive.

 

3. Navigate to the specific student's record (in this example: Andie B) > the Files Tab
