Troubleshoot - Google Drive error, duplicate folders created

I see 2 folders in Google Drive, with the same student name - which is the correct folder? What is the best way to find out?

First let's contain the issue:

  • Navigate to the Name of the student and click the pencil to the left of the student's name
  • Open the banner Student Information
  • Change the name of the student by adding a dash and number after the student's name
  • The screen will auto save your changes
  • Click the pencil to close the student information section and return to the Files tab

Now let's confirm security is correct:

  • Navigate to Files tab
  • Click on Menu
  • Select Open Student Folder

  • New tab will open directly into Google Drive Student's folder
  • At the top of the screen you will see breadcrumbs that let you know that you are in the student's folder.
  • You should see that the name of the folder now has the additional number added to the folder title.
  • RIGHT click on the student's folder and see who it is shared with.
  • Make changes to sharing directly at the Google Drive screen

Now let's find the duplicate file

  • At the top of your Google Drive screen, there is a search bar, enter in the name of the student and see if 2 folders appear. One with the number added to the title and the other without.

  • Who is the "without number" folder shared with? Unshare the folder with all.
