Accessing Google Drive through CounselMore Software

For Counselors:

  1. Signing into CounselMore:

    • Counselors log into their CounselMore software account using the email address they registered with.
  2. Authorizing Google Drive:

    • After logging in, counselors click on the "Files" tab of any student profile.
    • A pop-up window will appear, prompting the counselor to authorize access to Google Drive.
    • The Google Drive in question belongs to the company that purchased the CounselMore account. CounselMore does not own or have access to the counselor's Google Drive.
    • The counselor must choose which Google Drive account to connect to their CounselMore software account.
      • When the authorization window opens, Google will ask the counselor to choose the email address associated with their Google Drive.
      • The counselor should select the email address linked to the company’s Google Drive. If this email address is not listed, the counselor should manually enter the email address associated with the company’s Google Drive.
    • In multi-license counselor accounts, the admin has already made this choice, and the selection is handed down to each counselor invited to the software account.

For Students:

  1. Signing into the Student Portal:

    • Students sign into the CounselMore Student Portal using the email address the counselor used to invite them.
  2. Accessing Files and Authorizing Google Drive:

    • After logging in, students click on the "Files" tab in their Student Portal.
    • A pop-up window will appear, asking the student to authorize access to Google Drive.
    • The Google Drive they are being asked to authorize belongs to the counselor's college counseling company.
      • The authorization window requests permission for CounselMore to act as a conduit of information between the counselor's CounselMore software portal and the counselor's Google Drive.
    • CounselMore is already aware of the student's email address because the counselor used it to invite the student to the portal.
    • CounselMore acts as an information highway between the counselor’s portal and the Google Drive, allowing the student to see relevant information in their Student Portal.
    • CounselMore does not have access to the student’s personal Google Drive and cannot see what is in the counselor's Google Drive.
    • If the counselor chooses to remove the student’s access via Google Drive share permissions, this action will override any sharing permissions set in the CounselMore portal.
