[Clients - Assignments tab](https://helpdesk.counselmore.com/client-management?hsLang=en#clients-assignments-tab) # Assignments Tab - Order of assignments ## Assignments Tab - Order of the added routine assignments An assignment refers to any task or work that you would like to assign to either a student, parent, or counselor. These assignments can be tracked with a designated start date and due date. With the app, you have the ability to create and assign multiple assignments to be completed by either the students/parents or the counselors. ### **Switching between automatic and manual order** **![assorder](https://helpdesk.counselmore.com/hs-fs/hubfs/assorder.png?width=506&height=221&name=assorder.png)** At the far left of the column headers above the assignment list (above "Title"), there's a small up/down arrow icon. Hover over the icon to see which mode you're currently in, and click it to switch: - **Auto-sorting by Due Date** — the tooltip reads "Auto-sorting by Due Date - Click to sort by Drag-and-Drop order." Assignments are automatically ordered as described above. Click the icon to switch to Drag-and-Drop order instead. - **Sorting by Drag-and-Drop order** — the tooltip flips to "Sorting by Drag-and-Drop order - Click to auto-sort by Due Date." Assignments stay exactly where you've manually placed them. Click the icon to switch back to auto-sorting by Due Date.   ### **Auto-sorting by Due Date** Assignments are listed in ascending order by Date Due — the assignment due soonest appears at the top of the list, and later due dates fall below it. ![autosortbyduedate](https://helpdesk.counselmore.com/hs-fs/hubfs/autosortbyduedate.png?width=670&height=335&name=autosortbyduedate.png) For example, in the screenshot above, "Dartmouth College - App Completed" (due 9/5), "Tufts University - Essay Status" (due 9/7), "September 3 Meeting Notes" (due 9/8), and "Essay Draft" (due 9/9) are listed in that order automatically, soonest due date on top. If an assignment doesn't have a due date set, it drops to the very bottom of the list, below every assignment that does have one — see "The University of Chicago - Resume status/upload" in the screenshot above, which has an earlier Start Date (9/2) than everything above it but still sorts last because it has no Due Date. When two or more assignments **have no Due Date at all**, they're ordered among themselves by **Start Date**, earliest first — a different rule than the tiebreak above.
